* Please see the bottom pictures to see the most recent photos of this beautiful boy * Tofino came to the Garden at a very young age, he is a playful pup but he’s also a little sensitive. He was most comfortable playing with dogs his size and smaller, so he stayed in the smaller dog section at the Garden. Tofino is currently in a foster home in BC, Canada and can be adopted in either Canada or the US. His foster mom had been introducing him to lots of new experiences (walks, beach excursions and trips to the pet store to pick out treats). She described Tofino’s personality as very laid back for a dog his age. We believe that Tofino's unique appearance is the result of a condition known as leucism. Leucism is a partial loss of pigmentation, which can make the animal have white or patchily colored skin and fur. It differs from albinism in that the pigment cells in the eyes are not affected by the condition. Tofino has light blue eyes. If he were albino he would have red eyes. We believe that this special boy may squint to shield his eyes from the bright sunlight. When he is inside, he opens his eyes wider. There are some recommendations to make a leucitic pup more comfortable like dog-friendly sunscreen for their pink nose, doggie sunglasses called “doggles†to protect their eyes, and monitoring their skin for any new marks or changes, in order to protect against skin cancer. *** PLEASE NOTE *** The blue fence is 33.5†tall for height reference.
